The work is based on a future world,in which the children in Japan are disappearing constantly and people fight ferociously with those imaginary horrible animals.It is " a new world" that humans can move objects just by incantation; it is "a new world" that exists a kind of creatures whose IQ are as equivalent as the mankind; it is "a new world" which seems peaceful literally but complicated actually.Within the new world,chhildren are strictly controled and their improper memory will be eliminated instantly.What's worse,those who are regarded as the problem boy or girl will be separated and dealt just like those unqualified products.
The main character Zao Ji who lost a number of his friends just because of some of his behaviors against the rules,involving the battle bteween humans and the monster rats.The work presents a series of problems of the futere society and leads some discussion about the enviroment through the hair-raising plots,which also won the award of SF in 2008.
